Rare Czech Art Glass Ashtray, Josef Hospodka For Chribska, 1950s
Rare Czech art glass ashtray, Josef Hospodka for Chribska Glassworks, 1950s
A vivid example of Czech postwar glass artistry, this sculptural ashtray was designed by Josef Hospodka for Chřibská in the 1950s. Hand-blown and cased in clear crystal, it contains layered waves of color - rose, citrus yellow, and deep aqua - suspended within its heavy, fluid form. The contours fold and flare as if caught in motion, capturing light and refracting it through the thick, polished glass.Hospodka’s designs from this era pushed glass beyond function into abstraction, echoing the optimism and experimentation of mid-century Europe. Each piece was shaped by hand, resulting in subtle variations that make every example unique.
A striking statement object, simultaneously modern and timeless.
