A complete set of Matthew Hilton’s Circle candlesticks, England, early 1980s.
Cast in solid aluminum, each candlestick features a vertical stack of open ovals that vary subtly in proportion, creating a rhythmic, architectural composition. The three sizes were conceived as a graduated ensemble - elegant alone, but most striking when grouped together. Their Brutalist clarity and sculptural restraint reflect Hilton’s early exploration of material, geometry, and proportion, predating his later furniture work for SCP and De La Espada. Original production with natural patina and fine surface variation consistent with age. A rare and complete example of British postmodern design from one of its defining figures.
